Look at the first part of a Balinese name and caste is instantly identifiable. Unlike in Western or Korean naming, caste is openly encoded in the name. The gap between Ida Bagus (Brahmana m) and Wayan (Sudra m) means social position is read before the face. It appears on business cards, emails, social media, KTP. A foreigner who reads Balinese name patterns gains an edge in conversation, etiquette, and business decisions.
